logo_edujudge_01pequeo72ppp.png EduJudge  (Integrating On-line Judge into Effective E-learning) is an innovative system based on ICT which can be incorporated into the learning processes in the mathematical and programming field and it is addressed to higher education and secondary education students. The main goal of the project is to provide the UVA Online Judge, an online programming trainer, with a greater pedagogic character and to make it fit with an effective educational environment for higher and secondary education. For this reason we propose the integration of the online judge into the open source e-learning platform Moodle and the QUEST system. QUEST is also a system which is currently running to develop contests supported by telematics within the classroom. It is implemented as a module which can be integrated into Moodle. The integration of Online Judge into Moodle/QUEST seems to be the solution for some of the required pedagogical functionalities for the current system.

Objectives:

The main aim of the project is to integrate the Online-Judge into an effective educational environment, in order to satisfy the users demand for a greater pedagogic
character and, in this way, to facilitate the use of Online-Judge as one more activity for official courses. Therefore, the project has the following specific objectives:
- To improve the accessibility and use of algorithm problems defining metadata and creating a remote problem repository.
- To give the Online Judge a greater pedagogic character designing an intelligent system and classifying problems into different levels of difficulty.
- To develop a distributed system for remote evaluation so that the application field of EduJudge can be extended.
- To integrate Online Judge into QUEST and other communication and teaching tools available in the Moodle platform.
- To decentralize the courses and students management through the installation of Moodle and QUEST locally at every institution that uses the
Online Judge., with a multilingual User Interface (available, at least, in English and the mother language of each partners’ country).
- To organize pilot experiences aimed to satisfy the demands of users and to contribute to the development of a quality learning model.
- To create a community of teachers and students at European level in order to share Knowledge and experiences.

Target users:

Programmation and/or mathematics students and teachers in higher and secondary education

Participants entities:

CEDETEL (Project´s Coordinator )

Partners:
Universidad de Valladolid (Spain)
Universidad de Oporto (Portugal)
Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden)
Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (Lithuania)

Project stages:

The work plan of the project is divided into several work packages:

1 - The work package “Management and coordination of the project”(January 2008 - December 2009) will ensure the over-all project coordination and the successful day-to-day progress
of the project.
2 - The work package “Design and implementation repository of problems´ ” (January 2008 - June 2009) will focus on the implementation of a repository of learning objects for Edujudge.
3 - The goal of work package “Extension, improvement and optimization of the Online Judge evaluation engine” (January 2008 - May 2009) is to improve the Online Judge functionalities to be able to use it on a learning environment successfully, giving the students a useful feedback .
4 - The work package “Integration of the system into the e-learning platform” (January 2008 - December 2009) is dedicated to the implementation of a distributed and asynchrono
us system for remote evaluation of students submissions. Within this work package the partnership will design a user interface integrated into Moodle and the
QUEST system.
5 - The goal of the work package “Pilot experiences and validation” (May 2009 - December 2009) is to validate the different results of the project by using them in real experiences. To do this, several experiences are foreseen in the partners` countries to test the system in real courses and contest training.
6 - The work package “Dissemination of the project results” (January 2008 - December 2009) is dedicated to disseminate and promote the results of the project with the goal of promoting the use of the system developed as an ICT-based learning tool.
7 - Finally, the work package “Exploitation of the results” (January 2008 - Decemeber 2009) is dedicated to the exploitation activities.
